Tom--we will all miss you.

Chris & Lisa Krest Dear Friend January 13, 2010

Dear Tom,

You left in such a hurry.  So many unfinished dreams, so many unfinshed plans.  It's so hard to understand and accept the truth sometimes I guess.  We met Tom and the old school crew thru Eric (best man in our wedding).  One thing everyone always said about these boys is that they will be the most loyal friends you could ever have.. and "they" were right about that.  Tom was the kind of friend you meet a few times in your life, if your lucky - to us, he stood for love, compasion, honoring each other and F@*! the man.  Now if you know Tom you know he didn't stand lightly - he could size you up and spit you out with the swill in bottom of his glass.  But if you were fortunate enough to wind up on his right side he would do anything for you - until the day he died.  You left us shocked and shattered - you got us all pretty good you asshole - but we know it's gonna be all right.  Life goes on and that's the way it goes.  We love you.  We miss you.  And we will never ever forget you.  We'll catch you on the next ship my friend.

I met Tom in 1989 or 1990 and instantly became buddies. We had a lot of good times together way back when. My condolences. You will be missed my friend.

I just learned the terrible news about Tom and no matter how hard I try, sitting here at work, I just can't hold back the tears.  They are streaming down my cheeks.  I haven't seen or talked with Tom since our early 20s, but I am still incredibly saddened.  I will always remember Tom -- the smell of leather jackets, the click of Zippos, the fights, the laughter...  I am so very sorry; it's way too early to say goodbye.  My sincerest condolences to his wife, family and everyone who is grieving over Tom.  He is missed.

"For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun? And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from it's restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered? Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance." -Khalil Gibran My sincere condolences to his family and friends. Though I only knew Tom for a short period of time, he will not be forgotten.

I knew Tom back when we were teens, from parties, Muddy's cafe, and through many mutual friends. A fellow punk rat, he was a positive force, always laughing and always with a smile on his face. I was thinking about him last week and looking for him on Facebook. I found a picture of him on Chad Smith's Facebook page and was thinking it would be great to re-connect and get him to come out at the next get together. I was very saddened to hear of his passing. My deepest sympathies go out to his friends and family. We will all miss you Tom!

I remember the first day Tom came to our school from Amarillo. I knew right then he was a person of kindness, and we became fast friends. Yes time had separated us, but thoughts of him have weaved in and out throughout the years. I will always hold him dear to my heart. No matter how much time has past. You will be missed my friend.

A poem I first read while studying in Ireland Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Everything remains as it was. The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no sorrow in your tone. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without  effort Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting,  when we meet again.
